Heyo, i'm no longer dedicating time to DA.
Full reasons are on my personal page.
Manly Men contest obviously is not running, massive thank you to the 0 people who donated prizes to the contest...
Will sort out new leader for group.
Ciao.

---EDIT----

OK, so i wrote that when I was extremely tired and extremely disappointed so I will clear a few things up.

I have been a part of the DA community for over 7 years now across two accounts, I have been part of DAC for almost 5 of those years.
Deviantart used to be a wonderful community that allowed artists to grow and gather meaningful interactions with other artists, sadly that is no longer the case. My work is being stolen left right and centre, and the community has become toxic and full of, excuse the term, Tumblrwhores who only wish to spout idiotic ideals and steal artwork that they can post on their "blogs".

Deviantart has also gone in a new direction with their target market, with a interesting new design and a underwhelming new logo.
Part of their new direction is appealing to corporations to build revenue through hosted/advertised contests that unfortunately have very "seedy" copyright and licensing rules.

Finally after putting in over $1800 into the site on contest donations alone and never asking for anything in return, the way some people address me, treat my work, demand gifts/views/exposure has made me realise that honestly i can't do much more for this community.
You may have noticed a lot of high profile artists on this site are leaving and the truth is, as professionals in our field (design/art/illustration/marketing) we really just don't have the time and resources to dedicate to a social media site which offers no meaningful benefits to our brands or work.

Ps: my experience is just that, my experience, there are many users out there that still find value in this site and still enjoy the community, however it is no longer for me.

Sincerely: The-Average-Alex aka Oprah

You should have seen what DA was like 13 years ago. I don't blame you for leaving. Like. at all.

I joined DA this year and I agree, it has potential, but the way it is organized, no one seems to see my art at all. I think it has gotten too big. And the groups don't really seem to work. The only artists that have friends are the most popular ones but their art doesn't seem to be what makes them popular.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I left for a couple years and decided to come back only to find DA in shambles compared to what it used to be. Prime membership prices up 66%, lame new logo, more art thieves and lots of crappy amateur porn everywhere on what used to be a pretty decent art site. I almost decided not to come back. Time will tell if it's worth it again. In the end I just don't know of another site where I could get the same following and don't feel like starting all over again.

Agreed

Sneezy and Pixiv are my other choices, though the message system is weird...[at least for me]

Okay, sorry, stranger here...

I was on deviant art until sometime in senior year of Hs, I had deleted my accounts and have been using tumblr since junior year of HS. I feel like DA is a little bit easier to navigate artwork instead of having to search through pages of a blog. But where you pointed out careless reblogs without permission or sources, i can agree there are plenty of those on that site

Sad to say that you are right. I have also been with DeviantArt since it came out. I was known to a different account but then things started to change over time. Sad to say that website like this are focus on more making money rather to have a community that can support on each other whether sharing piece and/or comments and the like. Now that I have a new domain, this website is nothing more but to share my works.

I am getting super disappointed with this website as well. I have been on da for only three years and I've had similar problems. People from have used/stolen my art without even asking, have harassed me because I don't take free requests from strangers, and I have been insulted and made fun of. The community is going to the dumps.

I hope and pray that somewhere my work is circulating on tumblr and facebook and the like, because I certainly don't feel I get enough exposure on DA. I mean, I have some great watchers and friends here, but it's frustrating when my real life friends try to see my work and say they can't login, or don't want to have to join a site to see art. If anything my biggest problem with it is it's not more accessible.

Though it is troublesome to have people pass off your own work as your own, which is why sites like those are awful.

They'd have to photoshop my signature out of them to do that.

Watermarks prove to be more difficult to cover up with Photoshop.  Otherwise, written signatures can easily be hidden within a few seconds.

I don't really care. If the image becomes popular enough, ultimately I will benefit when the truth comes out.
Watermarks ruin everything.

I have been here coming onto ten years...and it has changed beyond reason. Between (as you called them) tumblrwhores, pedo art, the art theft, the utter lack of any meaningful support from the site itself...its just not an "art site" anymore. It has become just another social media site.
I still get good tutorials from time to time...I still find gems in the pages of "ugh not another huge breasted, badly done 'art'" But all in all...it is NOT what it use to be.

I think DA is not the same from a few years back (5 years in DA) but I met a few incredible artists here whi inspire me. As sadly as you sound is quite truth that people do not give credit to the original artists who created something, and share it without respect. Still, I use this page to see how I grow. Have fun everyone!

I'm really sad this has been your experience! I've experienced on a much smaller scale some of these things but it still hurts so I understand, where are you moving to so I can follow you there too?

I have been in DA for 3 and a half years and had my problems also, but stealing! oh not that, that didnt ever happen to me thanks God! OMG I understand why you got disappointed :( I really hope you return, this is a huge and lovely group, I also wrote you on your profile, there might be tumblr people who post artwork of yours without your permission, that's not good, but I can be sure on this: MOST people here woulndt ever do that.
I send you a hug from Argentina, it is so far away from your country, but I payed a look on your profile and could appreciate the beauty of your artworks and let me say this, it's not good to lose artists like you

Thats really sad. I just recently found this group too. As bad as stealing people art is, I've already braced myself just in case it happens with the thought that only I can do it. As long as they're not making money from it. I just dont like how the community is turning out

I'm new to DA.
Been here for more than 5 weeks..

But I guess, you can't really change the fact
that there are "art-stealers" "art-thieves"

Even though I'm new to DA and new to this group,
Thank you for all the hard work that you have given to this group.

"as professionals in our field (design/art/illustration/marketing) we really just don't have the time and resources to dedicate to a social media site which offers no meaningful benefits to our brands or work."

That really reflects my experience as well, I've tried to collaborate, interact, promote other artists, but I just don't have it in me anymore. As place to promote my work, DA is still a good platform; but as social network, it's just awful.

That's sad. I've only been around for +2 years and I'm seeing examples of that myself left and right. So many people are leaving in disappointment. My own experience has grown cold too, but I'll probably stick around for a while.

I've been running artshare groups since 2003 - list groups first, then free forums, then my own forum (still running) then dA and a few spin-offs on FB and the like. It can certainly be disheartening when activity is low. People have realLife issues that pull their focus elsewhere, people come and go, age out, whatever. But I do find it's cyclical... hills and valleys... Hopefully you will return, but for the others in the group, try not to be too discouraged. Activity will be dynamic...

Hey first of all thank you so much for letting me join in the first place. I know I don't contribute much, I'm still new and I made a mistake by joining as many groups as I can, but end up only contribute to 1-2 groups. I'm sorry I'll try to be more dedicated to the groups I'm in next time. I think it is time for me to leave some groups to stay in fewer groups and give my commitment.
I'm sorry and thank you.

cheers man, read your reasons to quit and it's sad to hear but people on here tend to indeed be quite selfish! and less interested to engage and help others, rather using groups as art galleries to get more exposure than commit themselves and help out, like with the contest prizes. just gotta find the right people to help out and make friends with I guess. :--)
best of luck and thank you for dedication towards the group, it's not easy job with all the artists just expecting to gain but not willing to give anything. sometimes it's just better to let go and do something that feels more worthwhile, if it's not paying off here.
