This journal will, hopefully, clear up the number one issue we have with submissions to the incorrect folder.

I will try to keep this short, sharp and to the point.

Let us cover our rule for submission: The deviation's category has to match the folder for it to be a correct submission.

What does this mean?
This means that you submit your piece of art to the folder that matches what you have classed that piece of work as when you submitted it to your gallery.

Photomanipulations
This one is a little more complicated since stock is involved.

We want to see direct links and proper credit to ALL stock used. So if your photomanip is declined it is either because you:
1. Didn't provide direct links
2. Have missing links/credits
3. Have no stock crediting/links at all
4. Used images that are copyrighted

If the stock/images are yours please state so in your description otherwise you could risk getting your work declined.

Please remember that if you are still not sure about the correct folder, to send us a message instead of posting to a folder and hoping for the best. If the folder is wrong, it will be declined and you would have lost your 1 submission a month slot.
We will not accept it and move it to the correct folder later; there are simply too many submissions to go through.

:bulletred: I cannot stress enough how important it is to read a group's rules before you submit. Group's have different rules so please, read the rules before submitting. It'll mean you're far more likely to place the work in the correct folder.

So to conclude just remember: use the category to help you submit to the correct folder.

For any questions, feel free to ask. I and other mods will try and answer them as best as we can.

Regards,
MG

-----Edit-----
Please note that we do NOT accept WIP (work in progress) pieces. Please only submit Completed Artworks.

hi, I just wanted to have a moan about the submission process. I can't remember the last time I had a piece accepted and I really try to pick the right category. My work is of high enough standard (the odd DD even) but I just can't get past the submission process.

If you followed the guidelines above you shouldn't have had any problems. Unless it's a photomanip?

I understand why you guys have problems with the folders.. luckily i always check where i submit my art to so it's never been a problem for me, but indeed people should take more time to submit their work to the right folder or just don't submit it at all.

Hi.
Just wondering; are you more likely to get declined if you draw a character but the there is no background to the image?

May I ask where to submit this? [link]
It's in manga/anime style and it is a drawing of 2 different people's characters. Does that go into the The Fan Art, Comics, Manga and Anime folder? Or does it go into the Digital Paintings and Drawings folder? I am so confused as to what anime and manga is, in some groups it means the style drawn and in others it means actual existing animes/mangas .-. As for fan art, do you consider arts of other deviants' OCs as fan art?
Thank you so much!

I tried submitting one, but I think I got the wrong folder. I re-submitted in the 'Fanarts, Comics, Manga and Anime' folder. It's not a fanart or comic, but it still works in there because it's Anime/Manga, right?

Hello, I tried to submit the card I painted [link] and it was declined. Could you please tell me is my art too poor quality or did I send it to the wrong folder? I really had a problem with that to be honest, because I'm not sure if it's more of a design or more of painting and that may have caused the problem...
Also, could you help me and tell me please is it ok that I have submitted it to dA as 'design & interfaces' or should I resubmit it to digital art-painting? I made the whole card, both illustration and symbols - I believe if I was an author only of part of that it would be easier for me to categorize. Sorry about my newbiness :(

It's a card design so it seems unlikely that that would be wrong.. i wouldn't know why they declined it because it looks fine to me.

You guys are pretentious jerks.

Declining art on the basis of lack of credit only hurts artists. Art manipulated is NEW art. I steal stock with google (and laboriously remove watermarks) and I make good quality art for non-commercial purposes with it. I am a good artist, but I cannot afford to buy stock, (like thousands of other DA artists).
Being copyright Nazis is elitist class warfare. Please tell me how giving money to a company is good for artists.

Art wants to be free. Money Aint Got Enough.

WallHaxx are you an absolute retard? These artists spend hours even days creating one image / image manipulation, but you feel its fine to come along and steal others work which they put hours of sleepless nights into. To do what? Break the copyright laws and manipulate someone elses work with basic skills, not onlybis it pathetic you go about ripping work, you fail to accredit them & attempt to take the credit for it. You sir will get nowhere within the industry ripping work, infact youd be lucky not to be in court facing lawsuits for infringingCopyright & intellectual property laws. I would laugh and applaud when this happens, ruin your reputation now and youve screwed yourself up in the industry. Why rip others work? Are you too shitty / lacking the skills to do it yourself?

This is so absurd, I'm honestly struggling to find a response.

I think all I have to say is read back on your comment and realise how backwards your logic is. Imagine how you'd feel if someone took your work, changed it a bit if they can be bothered, and re-posted it somewhere else. Then imagine them claiming it as entirely their own creation. I don't think that would make you feel overly cheery when you find out what has hypothetically happened. Now imagine what it's like for the people you're stealing it from.

This isn't pretentiousness at all, effort has been put into creating the images that you're putting the effort in to steal. This group is well within their right to ask for credits on artwork.

There is plenty of good, free stock images everywhere!!

By taking art from people who choose to make their career through art you are essentially stealing their livelihood from them so you can make some pretty pictures... you may be a good artist but you are a bit of a jerk, not the admins.

I'm studying animation at uni, and people like you are the ones that make me want to give up and do something where people don't blatantly try to steal (yes it is stealing) and say they're in the right!

If you aren't prepared to pay for stock images then clearly you don't need them that much. Go find some that are free, learn how to take your own, or just don't do it! Geez!

If you decline a piece and it was in the correct folder could you maybe give a reason for rejecting the submission?? It would be helpful and still encourage one to submit again in the future. Thanks

Hum, sorry for the disturbance !^^
I suggested it :thumb326985067: for the group but I've suggested it for fanart, comic etc category, but i'm sure I was wrong, and..... Yeah, i just have seen that effectively, it was declined.

Could you have the kindness to tell me in your opinion if firstly, my work was declined because its level is too bad, if by chance it's isn't the case, in what category I should propose it and most important, after a deviation was declined because it was suggested in the wrong folder (if it's the case with mine, maybe maybe), have I the right to re-propose it again in the good folder?

Sorry again for my request, i know you've a huge quantity of work, but if you can give me some details, it could be great.^^

We do not judge on quality. If you did indeed submit to the correct folder and it was declined then it was most likely a moderator mistake. It happens from time to time. Send me the links to the work you tried to submit.

I tried to submit a piece twice and got rejected twice. There isn't a folder that matches the category that my piece is under (Community Projects / Holidays / 2011 / Christmas), so I tried to submit it to the two closest folder to what the art is and got rejected. This was the art piece:

[link]

At first I tried the digital art, and then I tried the manga/anime folder. What folder would it go under, if it doesn't match those two and the one it's under?

If there is not a folder for your specific category then it goes into our Miscellaneous Folder. I think that was in our blog entry.

"Now in regards to the Miscellaneous folder, that was intended to house all other categories that we do not have folders for.
Of course, Digital Art > Miscellaneous > ... fits there - remember digital art only!"

I'm just throwin this out, but when I first started submitting to groups, the pull-down for selecting folders wasn't very obvious and really easy to overlook by accident. I realize groups are old news now, but maybe some of the newer people are having this issue. Plus, every group I belong to does it differently. I noticed that one makes you actually go INTO the correct folder and look at the work that is already there, and THEN you see a button to submit to that folder. Might be the way to go? Of course, it took me a pretty long time to figure that out. I've also noticed some groups don't put much into the about page, which seems like an obvious place to put instructions on how to use the group properly. Anyway, point is, lots of groups doing it different ways could be part of the problem too. Plus, you've got an awful lot of people on dA who don't even bother to look and probably don't care. And that's always real helpful.

That's always been a pet peeve, when people don't even bother to look and just submit wherever hoping for the right folder. Or purposely submit to the wrong folder hoping we'd just move it later. Nuh uh, we don't do that.

Unfortunately rule changes aren't up to me, but would you say what we have right now works and makes sense?
Reply
:iconcityofthesouth:

It works for me. I think it is more the way that dA set it up. It just takes a little figuring out. And it's pretty rare for me to make benefit of the doubt comments like my previous post ... but I have to admit that it took me awhile to figure groups out and how to use each one, and I'm sure I still have lots of room to learn more.
